Canoeing in the UK encompasses paddling of both kayaks and canoes. The kayaks we use are related to those used by Eskimo hunters and are paddled sitting in the bottom of the closed-in craft using a two-bladed paddle.

Canoes are open craft related to that used by American Indians that are paddled kneeling or sitting using a single-ended blade on one side only.

British Canoeing (BC for short) is the national governing body for Canoeing in the UK (formerly known as British Canoe Union or BCU).

The PPCA is able to provide both types of paddling, although the majority of our activities use kayaks. We are a British Canoeing Affiliated club also a recognised Paddle Ability Top Club on Sport Englands Club Mark scheme.

Whatever your age or motivation, canoeing can offer you something. Whether you paddle for enjoyment of the coastlines, to learn new skills, to share good company, to improve fitness, to get outdoors or to get an adrenaline rush in white-water and surf - canoeing is for you!

The PPCA is a friendly club, in a fantastic location. Our Club is based at the Mount Batten with great access to the water. With great facilities like parking and showers available with in the Mount batten centre, we welcome everyone and our pricing policy is designed to help families and younger members into canoeing and kayaking.

The club offer different types of membership. Full Membership (adult and youth) and Temporary Memberships - with our Go Canoeing Starter Sessions and Introductory Courses. Also for the kids (8 - 11) we have Paddlepower. Gift Vouchers are available see the bottoms of most pages for more information.
